From Enemy to Ally

I've long argued that the Iraq War removed Iraq as an enemy with their military, money, and support of terrorism and added Iraq to our side on the war on terror.

I still think that it would be a wonderful symbolic move on Iraq's part to offer a battalion to fight in Afghanistan as part of an American brigade. But Iraq still helps us just by fighting jihadis on their own soil:

Iraqi authorities have obtained confessions from captured insurgents who claim al-Qaida is planning suicide attacks in the United States and Europe during the Christmas season, two senior officials said Wednesday.

A senior U.S. intelligence official confirmed the threat as credible.

Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bolani told The Associated Press that the botched bombing in central Stockholm last weekend was among the alleged plots the insurgents revealed. Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, in a telephone interview from New York, called the claims "a critical threat."

I expect Iraq to provide more and more help as time goes on, and for that help to eventually extend beyond today's battlefield in Iraq.
