Check out this clueless statement by Human Rights Watch:
Human Rights Watch, a New York-based group, said the U.S. has been so focused on fighting terrorism that it has overlooked the shortcomings of Somalia's government.
"The United States, treating Somalia primarily as a battlefield in the 'global war on terror,' has pursued a policy of uncritical support for transitional government and thiopian actions, and the resulting lack of accountability has fueled the worst abuses," Human Rights Watch said in a report Monday.
U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack called the charge "ridiculous."
I think maybe you have an example of why I have such utter contempt for the so-called human rights industry.
Yes indeed, the worst problem Somalia has is that we are trying to keep the place from becoming a jihadi sanctuary. But for us, kites would be flying, people would be smiling, and all that.
Sometimes I would truly like to give the human rights community exactly what they claim to want and just get out of the saving-the-world business. Let the world rot and starve, eh? Because we're such big bastards that we can't help but make any situation worse.
But we won't do that. We almost always help when nobody else in the world either gives a damn or has the capability.
Still, I can still think Ef HRW and the horse they rode in on.
UPDATE: Well, well. It appears the so-called human rights community has an anniversary. The shame of their descent into madness knows no bounds. But they celebrate themselves still.
