Taiwan will practice thwarting a Chinese "invasion" in annual live fire drills in June, simulating surprise coastal assaults to reflect increased military threats from Beijing, officials said Tuesday (Apr 24).
Years ago it drove me nuts that the Taiwanese seemed to assume that China wouldn't actually invade if China attacked. So this is progress in appreciating the threat.
But I hope that the Taiwanese assume that China will go for the kill rather than thinking China will use some lower level of militarized pressure on Taiwan.
