A Frenemy in Need

The Trump administration warned the Russians about a terror plot there. Good.

Innocent people shouldn't be dead even if their ruler is Putin:

Russian President Vladimir Putin telephoned U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday to thank him for information that allowed Russia to prevent a terrorist attack on its soil, Interfax news agency quoted the Kremlin as saying.

The Russians as a result were able to arrest the plotters who were going after Kazansky Cathedral St. Petersburg. The Russians pledged to return the favor.

It was the right thing to do to warn the Russians.

And now the Russians know that failure to warn America about a plot--and Russia has more direct links to terrorist information than we do--could result in America knowing that Russia failed to help us out when a mere call would have helped save lives.

It works the other way, of course. If we hadn't warned the Russians there is a good chance Russia would have learned we refused to make a mere phone call.

So this is all good. Russia and America shouldn't want to fight each other.

Baby steps when we can, eh?
