Tomorrow, the Thrill of Victory!

The Russians decided to start off their Olympics with the agony of defeat:

At the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi, the hammer & sickle made an elaborate appearance[.]

That's nice.

For younger readers, ABC Wide World of Sports had the slogan "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat."

UPDATE: While I hope Putin's security measures keep the games safe from terrorists, don't be ashamed of enjoying any fails related to Putin's glorification of Russia's Soviet past and hoped for neo-Soviet future of governance, power, and territorial expanse. This is mocking Putin--not Russians.

The hammer and sickle are symbols of ruination for Russians and the world. Soviet nostalgia is nothing to gloss over. If Putin is rude enough to use the Olympics for this, we can enjoy his stumbles.

Were we supposed to restrain glee that Jesse Owens "ruined" the 1936 Berlin Olympics?

I hope toilets explode and medals disintegrate.

UPDATE: Seriously? You want to feel sorry for Putin because he is being mocked a bit?
