Senior military commanders know the meaning of those words from Mr. Hagel: the former soldier may have to fire more soldiers and reduce or reject more weapons programs.
You wonder why defense sequestration didn't bother me? Stopping those cuts would have only been a temporary victory. Hagel's job is to buck the Pentagon good and hard--with that bonus "(R)" after his name.
