Worth a Shot

I don't know what else we could do under the circumstances:

A senior U.S. official says President Barack Obama has assured Egypt's Islamist president of America's commitment to a "new partnership" with the Arab nation.

It would be folly to push Egypt away because of the result of their election. We need to use our levers of power to make sure--as much as we can--that structures of democracy are put in place to keep regular elections coming that can actually affect Egypt's policies.

Egypt may end up being an enemy, but why assume it? Better to try and fail than to cut off all economic and military aid now and ensure it.
