Why Do They Hate Them?

I know, there are some here who deep down think we deserved 9/11 and jihadi anger. The Iraq War, Britney Spears, the Crusades--whatever. Somehow, although the deaths of 9/11 are certainly awful, it is somehow understandable to some that we are targets of real anger and grievances.

And then you go and see that jihadis have been angry at Thailand for some time now:

The army claims that, in the last eight years, the number of Islamic militants in the south has been reduced more than half, to under 5,000. The violence has also declined, but all this is mainly because more and more southerners are fed up with years of violence. Eight years of unrest down there has meant nearly 12,000 violent acts, 5,200 dead and over 9,000 wounded. The gangs provided weapons, technical advice and some muscle to get the Islamic terrorism going, and now to keep it going. The Moslem population down there is fed up with the gangs and their Islamic radical allies.

It's a complicated ethnic, religious, and criminal problem. Do read it all.

But the Thais didn't fight in Iraq. Ms. Spears isn't Thai. Thais weren't involved in the Crusades. Shoot, Thais aren't even American at all.

Is it still understandable that jihadi grievances and anger result in dead Thais?
