The African Union thinks it can come to some type of negotiated agreement over the Mali crisis.
Yes, I'm sure the Islamists will agree to some limits on how many cultural and historical sites they'll destroy. And I'm sure that the Islamists will limit how many centuries they want to go back in time for the people unfortunate enough to live under their influence.
Will the AU consider it a triumph of diplomacy if the jihadis only destroy 85% of the Islamic sites? Or is victory set at half?
And what's the acceptable human collateral damage?
France really needs to get moving on this.
