Hey Dude. Never Met You

This civilian instructor celebrated quite the milestone:

During the Army Birthday cake-cutting ceremony at Fort Leonard Wood Thursday, Melvin Hagarty took center stage. The post’s oldest civilian employee helped cut the birthday cake, along with Maj. Gen. Mark Yenter, the post’s commanding general, and Dr. Rebecca Johnson, the civilian deputy to the commanding general. ...

In 1982, Hagerty began his employment as a training instructor at the U.S Army’s Engineer School and has been there ever since.

This guy has been working at Fort Leonard Wood since before I was there for basic training.

I don't feel quite so old.

But he taught at the engineer school rather than the basic training part of the base. So I never met him and probably never saw him.
