President Bush will be committed during his second term to the "liberation of Cuba" by extending moral and political support to the Cuban people, a top State Department official said Friday.
Those not on the top tier of the Axis of Evil should not feel they are safe from our attention.
And in a bow toward all those who claim that we planned insufficiently for the overthrow of Saddam there is this good piece of news:
[Roger] Noriega noted that Washington has a blueprint for providing social, economic and other types of assistance to Cuba in the post-Castro era.
The plan is spelled out in a report released last May and overseen by Secretary of State Colin Powell. The assistance is conditioned on whether Cuba is on a democratic path and whether such assistance is requested.
Yes indeed, since we are planning already there can be no complaints. Or will those who admire and fawn over Castro do what those who admired and fawned over Saddam did? Oppose anything like planning that might prejudice talks and the like or imply that war is inevitable.
Damned if we plan. Damned if we don't. And damned, of course, if our plan contains some wrong assumptions--never mind that we correct our plans as we go.
Still, as I said, it is good that we don't forget these scumballs so near to us.
