I know I may seem daft for urging some caution over responding to Russia's invasion of Crimea, but let's remember first things first.
We are right to want to make Russia pay a price for their invasion and we should have reversing the invasion and occupation as our objective rather than counting on Putin having no more territorial ambitions beyond Crimea and believing that is enough to sate his appetite.
But unless we have the ground line of communication through Pakistan securely open, let's not risk the several tens of thousands of Americans serving, fighting, and dying in Afghanistan (and thousands of allied troops) who rely in supply lines through Russia.
Or do we want to commit the bulk of our airlift capability just for supply missions?
Let's be careful out there. Remember the objective--but let's be careful.
