Weekend Data Dump

I suppose this would be handy if you wanted to slip into civilian air corridors for a strike mission.

Hong Hong democracy protesters have to be more subtle in their protests now that China has full paper authority to arrest anybody for pretty much anything.

Vote accordingly young man.

But ... But ... They have socialized medicine and don't have Trump! For God's sake, they have nuance! I'll add that we really have no idea WTF the status of Communist China is.

It's a sad day for America when residents have to form local defense units to protect themselves from criminals because local government officials refuse to combat the criminals and in fact sympathize with the criminals. I wrote about them enough in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Nigeria. And now they are needed in America. Sadly, there are delusional people allowed to run around with scissors who side with the rioters and criminals. Seriously, what is their major malfunction? There were (and are) nuts on the right. The difference is that the leftist mass media mocks and refutes nuts on the right rather than agree with them and cheer them on when they are lefty nuts. Although perhaps sanity is finally making an appearance in Portland. Tips to Instapundit.

How the media twists data to create a dramatic Xi Jinping Flu crisis in a red state:

But blue states get a pass no matter what. Also, the death count is inflated in America by official encouragement. Not that Florida--or any place--has this controlled. But it is muddling along just like everyone else. And yet Cuomo is somehow a caring genius in New York. Via Instapundit.

It's so cute how naive some people are. As if Pulitzer Prizes and fame would follow from reporting on the illegal domestic spying that the Obama administration carried out on the Trump campaign! Those honors are reserved for lies about Russian-Trump collusion and possibly for exposing Sharpie use on a weather map.

I know a lot of conservatives mock the idea of "microaggression." I like it because in the spirit of proportionality I can "microcare" about them.

Egyptian and Sudanese opposition to the huge GERD Nile River dam may be the least of Ethiopia's problems.

I swear to God, if I am ever in the position of having to declare my pronouns, I'll say "Heh/ho/hum".

I pay close attention to national and international news. In my career I added state-level news here and nationally, but that faded away. I've been a news junkie since I was but a lad. But I'm not going to miss losing television news in a couple weeks when I let my YouTube TV go dormant after their latest no-value-added 30% price increase. I haven't been getting news for a long time. I've even noted that the insanity on TV has pushed me to reduce my television news consumption a great deal. I used to leave it on all day like a radio for background and the occasional actual "breaking news." The problem is that television media has gone insane on the left--getting worse the closer we get to the election. And even Fox News has to react to that insanity, so it isn't like I can avoid it by refusing to watch CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC, and ABC. So screw them. The last two months of rioting in Democratic cities that the media won't admit is happening--after watching the media portray peaceful (but with some openly armed) anti-lockdown protesters as monsters who want grandmas to die and who might turn violent any minute!--finally pushed me over the edge on this decision. I hope 70% of those partisan hacks lose their jobs and the remnant are so fearful of joining them that they decide to be "news" employees again. Until then I won't pay for what I haven't been getting.

I don't think this description is too far from reality: “Vote for Joe Biden or the national temper tantrum will only get worse.

As I believe I mentioned in the last data dump, in communist countries power is the real currency. So a wealthy man is just a target for the CCP who can conveniently be stripped of that wealth for being declared an enemy of the people.

F-35s in Alaska highlight Arctic Sea importance and can shift to Japan fairly quickly. Experience in that weather probably makes them prime candidates for shifting to Norway for a Baltic Sea region crisis.

I'd be lying if I said I'm not totally enjoying the sight of liberals getting the "cancel" treatment by leftist nutballs that was once reserved for conservatives as liberals cheered on the cancel culture.

Good grief, is Seattle close to becoming a anarcho-syndicalist commune?

Israel clashed with Hezbollah gunmen trying to sneak into Israel. We'll see if this is a trigger to carve Hezbollah a well deserved new one with a deep multi-division ground raid into Lebanon. If enough Lebanese blame Hezbollah for Lebanon's current crisis, which now includes society-killing hyperinflation, that would be a window of opportunity for Israel to focus on shredding Hezbollah if Israel avoids damaging non-Hezbollah assets or killing non-Hezbollah people in Lebanon. Experts say neither wants a war now. But one must want war less than the other which might give the other incentive, no?

Wag the infidel dog: "Iran has moved a mock-up U.S. aircraft carrier to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, satellite images show, suggesting it will use the look-alike vessel for target practice in war games in a Gulf shipping channel vital to world oil exports." The Iranian attackers would get better practice if they let Fifth Fleet defend it with live ammo, rather than count on Iranians to do that.

Huh. I was beginning to think that Trudeau could shoot somebody on Bloor Street and get away with it. (Although, yes, I know Ottawa and not Toronto is the capital.)

Without going into the oddly sensitive question of whose lives do matter, I want to know whose lives don't matter?

Mr. Norberg must be brilliant. You'd have to be smart to concoct an argument denying intense 17th century Christian-Islamic divisions despite what your lying eyes show you. We're surely in a different situation more than three centuries later, but let's not try to impose 21st century political correctness on the 17th, eh?

The Siege of the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse. The communist scum besieging that building need to be defeated and spend some time inside a federal prison. Which would be kind of funny considering how hard the SOBs are trying to get into that federal building. Shame on Portland for standing aside while this goes on. Wait! State police will protect the building on the outside and the feds will pull the border police unit from the courthouse. But the feds better have a quick reaction force on standby to reinforce the federal agents still inside the building if it gets more Alamo and less Rorke's Drift.

I don't trust polls before Labor Day because most people don't pay attention to politics the way journalists and pundits plus the people who read those journalists and pundits do 24/7/365. And because polling before September is often based on registered voters or all adults rather than solidly derived likely voters. And while this criticism of today's polls may be correct, Trump supporters need to be careful about dismissing polls once the campaign begins. I know I thought I had good reasons to dismiss them in 2012. But it will be interesting to see if a significant number of Trump voters refuse to tell pollsters their real views given the intense Democratic-media hatred directed at them.

Because it would help Republicans. Next question. As the popular kids say, "democracy dies in darkness."

I never heard of Mike Adams, may he rest in peace. But the toll of a decade of macro-aggressions took a toll. Remember, "liberal minded" is not the same as "open minded."

I'm so old I remember when Democrats would pretend to be patriotic by embracing the American flag during presidential election years.  Tip to Instapundit.

Chest-beating and flinging poo in the Strait of Hormuz. But please take the strong hint about what Iran would like to do. And recall that Iran has worked hard to make their anti-ship weapons along the Persian Gulf resistant to attack by putting them underground.

Somebody in China may be trying to wage a private war on America. Or maybe there is a benign explanation for so many people getting seeds in the mail from China.

Don't hold your breath for the media to fact check Representative Nadler or his colleagues on their serial lies and misrepresentations in front of the cameras. As an aside, I was greatly amused by watching Nadler chastise several Republican committee members for violating committee mask policies--which Nadler did while wearing his mask on his chin. In addition, I want to thank Democratic members of Congress for making it clear to me watching the AG Barr hearing that they are unworthy of holding office while they burn with the fever of Trump Derangement Syndrome. The hearing was a farce with Democrats making accusations and refusing to let Barr respond. Barr was just a prop for their show trial. Shame on them.

Never believe China. No wonder they get on so well with the Russians.

Nazis in Germany occupied the Sudetenland, overran Czechoslovakia and assaulted Poland after a peaceful Anschluss intensified. Note that the ABC story was changed after mockery over the "intensified" "peaceful demonstration" wording erupted.

All your fish are belong to us. About 260 Chinese fishing vessels showed up near Ecuador to vacuum up fish.

Huh, is that a badass seagull ('Tis but a scratch!) or just a huge Steve Martin fan?

A look at the clusterfuck that is today's Yemen, including Iranian meddling, the slowing war with the Houthi, and the continued struggle against al Qaeda and corruption--which has exhausted the international community's patience for providing humanitarian aid that is plundered by the locals. But on the bright side, secessionists from the Saudi coalition will (for now?) end their struggle, perhaps allowing the struggle against the Houthi secessionists backed by Iran to resume.

The year 2020 isn't being kind to China. Luckily China can't export their flooding crisis. Will people wonder if the Mandate of Heaven has been withdrawn from their ruling fascist Communist Xi Jinping?

Precision versus Pakistan.

Marines will test an exoskeleton. But don't get excited. It is more of a wearable forklift rather than a combat suit. Although the reality is probably more useful than the science fiction possibilities. Although I'd think it would be useful for loading and moving large shells for towed artillery or large mortars.

Ah, our bastard Russian friends. They may yet get what they deserve. One way or another.

TDS has no cure but prison time can limit the spread. Read it just to get to "a scrawny, pasty white booger-eating communist shithead." When a man is right, he's right.

Hope amidst the ruins of media credibility. Although that actual reporter has little future in his field as it is currently constituted.

That's pretty neat.

Sports are restarting. I don't care for baseball so the new woke MLB really has no appeal to me. Nor does the newly woke NBA. My true interests are NFL and NCAA football and the NHL. But I have no confidence they can escape the woke plague nor do I have high confidence they can play even a truncated full season. So I'm cutting the cord on cable TV to avoid them and send a message. Avoiding the TDS-infected television news during the height of campaign season is a plus for mental health, too. Even discovering that I simply can't get over-the-air TV where I am didn't give me more than momentary pause to my plan. We'll see if I ever return.

Iraqis coping with Iranians, Turks, and the Xi Jinping Flu.

Honestly, I worry more about anti-American attitudes of native-born Americans than of legal immigrants. And again, I support legal immigration on our terms while opposing illegal immigration.

Belarus authorities say they arrested 33 fighters from the Putin-affiliated military contractor Wagner Group. I worry about the most important territory in Europe today. But it seems more likely that rather than being their to destabilize Belarus ahead of their pretend election that the mercenaries are simply flying out of Belarus to provide a degree of separation from Russia's adventures abroad. Still, it would help Russia for destabilizing Belarus at some point if Belarusian security services got used to mercenaries harmlessly going through Belarus. That way the mercenaries get the element of surprise when they act against Belarus.

To be fair, the woke morons who hounded the bed and breakfast owners were educated by woke morons.

"What happened to an America where you could freely speak your mind?" What happened is that we failed to notice that it is a crime against language to think that "liberal minded" is a synonym for "open minded."

Egypt is "fuming" as Ethiopia fills its GERD Nile River dam: "Egypt's official response betrayed powerlessness rather than resolve." It is pointless to annoy Ethiopia unless Egypt thinks it can get money from third parties to calm down. I'm not saying Egypt doesn't have a reason to worry. But it is better to have a friendly Ethiopia whose dam inadvertently harms Egypt than an angry Ethiopia that won't take steps to alleviate inadvertent harm and which could try to actively harm Egypt in retaliation. Honestly, I don't understand the point of the war talk. Unless Egypt conquers the entire course of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia how on Earth can Egypt compel Ethiopia to supply water to Egypt?

I'll say it again, I fully understand that Republicans of the Never Trump variety despise Trump. I once despised the man myself because I thought he was a Democratic blowhard. While I've gained an appreciation for Trump's sense of humor that goes over the heads of the TDS sufferers, I often think he acts like a jerk (and why tweet this when it cannot and will not happen--unless it was meant to highlight delays in other areas of life that should not be delayed because of the Xi Jinping Flu--just giving nuts another opportunity to screech "Tyrant!"?). And yes, criticizing his policies should be fair game. So I refuse to demonize and insult Republican opponents of the president. Absolute loyalty is not something that I encourage. The slavish devotion of Obama followers was repulsive to watch. What I don't understand is those Republicans thinking that harming Trump to the point of electing Joe Biden and the woke mafia puppet masters with their arm up Biden's nether region making him talk the woke talk is a good idea. Now is not the time to emphasize policy differences in the open. Throwing an election now and losing a term in the presidency in which Republicans appointees run the executive branch for the alleged gain of being better prepared to win a future election seems like a poor bet to make.

What's going on? I thought Hong Kong had a handle on its Xi Jinping Flu  pandemic. Which really makes me wonder what is really happening on the mainland.

India is working to end its logistics infrastructure inferiority on the India-China border.

Hahahahahaha!!!! Tip to Stephen Green. I have one thing to say:

The United States commander of forces in Japan reminded people that America backs Japan in the recently flared dispute with China over the Senkaku islands. We have their six, as I wrote some time ago. And Japan gets stronger as China gets stronger and more aggressive.

A reminder that Twitter doesn't reflect America. Twitter reflects the tiny minority of hateful and intolerant activists and a larger fraction of those tempted by the rush provided by Tweeting intolerant hate.

Given that the fraudulent Trump-Russian collusion frenzy likely caused Republicans to lose control of the House of Representatives in 2018, you're damned right the Durham report should be released before the 2020 election. And if Democrats insist that the fantasy they've created and peddled is real they should welcome a pre-election release.

Sure, Democrats use the dead for their cannon fodder. That's disgusting, to be sure. But I'm really angry that they use the living that way with their refusal to end lockdowns at all human and financial costs--you can take the Xi Jinping Flu seriously without advocating curling up in a fetal position--and their complicity in letting Anarchists and Marxists exploit the death of George Floyd--remember him and the unity to weed out bad cops that his death inspired?--to wage war on our city streets for their own sick goals.

Yes, these people would be political and not economic refugees. And it would be good to let mainlanders know that escape from CCP oppression is not impossible.

Again, without getting into a debate over Black Lives Matter versus Black lives mattering, it is always instructive to see which Black lives don't matter to the left-wing Twitter monsters.

Republicans pounce! I'm disgusted that Democrats can't simply condemn bad things leftists do. Instead Democrats complain that people will be repulsed by the bad things and that Republicans will point out who is doing the bad things and who is aiding and abetting the bad people.

Our planes weren't trying to cross into your sacred air space, Ivan, you puffed up martinets. They get what they need over international waters--which will be useful to creating the Black Sea Turkey Shoot if Russia is foolish enough to wage war on NATO.

I see somebody is counting on a Biden presidency.

The "mostly peaceful" protest "intensifies."

The Navy is trying hard to get the LCS deployed routinely and to finally get the ASW and mine sweeping modules ready for installation and use.

"Bull Connor may be gone. But today we witness with our own eyes police officers kneeling on the necks of Black Americans." I guess Democratic Party mayors haven't changed that much in fifty years.
"Keeping colleges closed this fall is far more likely to stop the spread of communism than it is to stop the spread of COVID." Tip to Instapundit.

Well, I've read about it in history books. But in my lifetime one party reacts to the American flag the way vampires react to Holy Water and sunlight.

Chris Cuomo was assured there would be no math and proceeds to mangle it--no, Germany's economy did not do better than America's in the second quarter no matter how much he mathed it up. Again, via Instapundit.

Will the F-15EX replace aging Strike Eagles, too? As a related aside, I'm not going to lie. I thought capping the F-22 at two wings was a reasonable decision in 2009. And if the F-35 is as good as it seems, it may still be.

Is this really a shock in Sultan Recep's proto-caliphate?

Don't make too much of Turkey's influence in the Arab world given that it is present only where Turkish military power is deployed. The former hated colonial power isn't making friends and influencing people without military power behind it.

Yes, she displays little evidence that she's benefited from higher education.

One can of course hope that the low death toll from China's massive flooding is as low as the CCP says, but that's not the way to bet. Tip to Instapundit.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, can we trade China their protesters for our "protesters?"

Oregon state police will protect the federal courthouse in Portland so some of the federal officers can go home. If the Portland protesters just wanted the state to protect the building rather than feds, why did the protesters try to destroy the building?

I'm just hearing that the Henry Ford hospital system's study showing that hydroxy-chloroquine works can't show that because another drug known to work was used at the same time. I'd like to make informed judgments on the news--and said good things about the drug based on news on the study findings--but why was this detail absent from the early reports? I need actual news to weigh pros and cons!

Oh FFS! Will people stop pushing Peak Stupid ever higher?! I don't even want to hear them pretend that they know the difference between an apple and a banana.

The more time passes the more I think Trump questioned whether the November election should be postponed in order to get the Democrats to demand it take place on time. Until Trump set that marker  I could totally see them demanding a delay if Biden is down in the polls a week before the election. Recall that Democrats repeatedly demanded delays in Iraqi elections--which Bush 43 and the Iraqis rejected--until the country was completely pacified.

Normally a "shark summer" news frenzy would make me double the guard and check ammo. But in 2020 we've had the Xi Jinping Flu and Marxist riots already. So ... nice try.

Mask, social distancing, lockdown, and quarantine rules are for the little people.

It's good to be the woke.

Please disregard every time travel movie you've ever seen.

There is no way Joe Biden will debate President Trump. So stop wondering if debates will take place. The only unknown is what BS excuse will the Democrats come up with and how enthusiastically will the media agree with the BS excuse.

Sadly, being good exacts a price in lives.

SpaceX successfully splashed down Sunday afternoon. America is a spacefaring nation again.

It's hard to argue against the charge that politics rather than science is keeping schools closed. By all means take precautions. But for the sake of the kids, they have to be back in school.

Why is Vietnam avoiding a Xi Jinping Flu calamity? Natural immunity? But if so why did China get hit so hard when it broke out? Wouldn't Chinese be similarly protected? (And who knows if China is still being hit hard?)

How brave! Now do Korans.

Hahahahaha!! Tell me there won't be--God forbid he should win--an awkward televised moment between Biden and his VP that the media will have to memory hole. This could only be worse if Bill Clinton had picked a woman VP.

It is understandable that we reacted to the Xi Jinping Flu pandemic as we did given the dire predictions of massive death tolls. Now that we've found the virus isn't as bad as we feared, perhaps we can rediscover the knowledge of building herd immunity. We overreacted. But that was then. What excuse is there to keep overreacting? Or are we going to act on crappy computer models little more accurate than divining the future from the entrails of chickens spilled on the ground before us? Just how far have we really advanced? Still, in the long run I'm more worried that so many have forgotten how bad socialism is. Tip to Instapundit.
