Um, What You Reported Didn't Happen

America lost three troops in Afghanistan recently. Which is a spike. But this aside in the article is 100% incorrect:

[Ghazni city], which sits on the main highway linking the capital Kabul with Kandahar in the south, was overrun this year by a large Taliban force before it was driven off by Afghan and U.S. troops after days of heavy fighting.

While I am worried that the Taliban were able to mass to attack the city, the city defenders in fact held despite the major Taliban effort.

The city was penetrated but was not in any way overrun by the Taliban, which implies a complete takeover complete with a collapse of the defending forces.
