Hillary Clinton says our foreign policy smartness is defined by having empathy with our enemies.
Which is more than she has for the average American Tea Party supporter.
I'm all in favor of understanding our enemies--if it allows us to more effectively kill them.
But inevitably, "understanding"--and now "having empathy for"--our enemies just becomes an exercise in answering the question "why do they hate us?" with self-blaming reasons.
As for our smart foreign policy, could we spare some empathy and respect for allies like Canada, Poland, Britain, Honduras, and Israel, who don't seem to get the empathy treatment as much?
