Two judgments call the war with Hamas for Israel on the battlefield and at the peace table.
This seems plausible. I certainly didn't react in horror to Israel's waging of this war the way I reacted to the 2006 war with Hezbollah.
The Israelis were surprised only by how long it took Hamas to stop fighting.
Which seems odd since I thought Hamas had some unexpected tactics to cause the relatively high Israeli casualties. Israel adapted and won, mind you. But I don't think it is quite accurate to say Hamas and the other Islamists had no surprises for Israel.
The only thing I'm positive about is that Israel will again fight Hamas and again fight Hezbollah.
