The Next Syria War

Assad is reaping what he sowed for years in Iraq (and in Lebanon for even longer):

A militant group claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing in eastern Syria last week that killed nine people and said attacks would continue, in a statement posted on the Internet on Monday.

The al-Nusra Front said it was behind the attack on Saturday which targeted military installations in Deir al-Zor. The authenticity of the statement could not immediately be verified.

But I take no joy in seeing suicide bombers and car bombs arrive in Syria.

Whoever wins this civil war will need to wage a new war against the jihadis who plant large bombs and recruit suicide bombers. Assad will obviously need to get rid of them--since they've proven that they can't be trusted. And a new government will need to suppress them to avoid becoming a haven for terrorists that attract angry foreign attention.
