The U.S. Army has added the Sadr City tactics to their playbook, which is itself another recent innovation. For the last three decades, the army has been documenting any new ideas, especially successful ones. There is now a computerized search capability which brings up any useful tactics and techniques from the past. Reinventing the wheel will not be used as much in the future.
Read it all. It is even more impressive reading about it after the fact. It is a good reminder of how we learned how to fight on our enemy's home turf and rip their hearts out without suffering large casualties ourselves or killing civilians in the crossfire. Fifteen years ago, I had my doubts that we could extend our developing surveillance and command and control capabilities to urban battlefields. But we have done it.
