The West Still Stands in the East

South Korea and Australia will sign a defense agreement:

The agreement with Seoul is likely to cover enhanced intelligence exchanges, high-level security dialogues and close co-operation in peacekeeping, The Australian said.

This is good. And two years ago, Australia and Japan signed a defense agreement.

Now, we aren't talking full-blown military alliance. That tends to revolve around bilateral agreements with America. But it puts in the habit of working together against common threats. So as long as we stand tough, the strands of the alliance will be pulled together.

Despite some talk of a rising China supplanting America in the Western Pacific, there is no indication that Western nations are pulling away from us to suck up to China. As long as we remain a reliable defense partner, there is no reason for this to change when the threat to democratic nations is a communist China.
