The Good Guys Think We're Flighty

I've written that a key to getting local help against ruthless jihadis includes making sure that the locals know that we will stick around until victory if the locals stick their necks out to resist the jihadis. Because unfortunately, losing to the jihadis means you will quite literally lose your neck--or rather that will be the point of separating your head from your body. The locals don't want to live under jihadi rule (or rules) but if the locals don't think we'll stick around until the jihadis are beaten, the locals would rather keep quiet, stay neutral or help the jihadis, and keep their necks intact.

Hard to argue with that reasoning, if you ask me.

So how do we treat the jihadis in our midst?

Well, in Britain nobody wants to mention the problem--which includes "British" Moslems going to Afghanistan to fight against the coalition--including Britain--or sending supplies to the jihadis in Afghanistan, because that might antagonize British Moslems:

After senior officers confirmed last year that British Muslims were fighting with the Taliban in southern Afghanistan, it was revealed that RAF Nimrod surveillance planes monitoring Taliban radio stations were surprised to hear insurgents speaking in strong Yorkshire or Midlands accents.

More recently, officers based at the main military base at Lashkar Gah revealed that they had found British-made components in roadside bombs used to attack coalition forces in southern Afghanistan, sent to Helmand by Muslim sympathisers in Britain. This week three British Muslims, part of a terrorist cell whose leader was convicted of plotting to kidnap and behead a British soldier on video, were jailed at the Old Bailey for supplying equipment to the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

The active involvement of radical British Muslims in the Afghan insurgency has led senior officers to claim that they are engaged in a "surreal mini-civil war" in Afghanistan. And yet, for all the compelling evidence that British-based Islamist radicals are actively participating in a jihad against Britain and its coalition allies, the Government, together with those who have opposed our involvement in the War on Terror from the start, seems determined to give the Islamist radicals the benefit of the doubt.

Even when incontrovertible proof is found that British Muslims are aiding and abetting the enemy in Afghanistan and elsewhere, the Government's instinct is to try to cover up their involvement, for fear of further inflaming Islamist sensitivities.

Fear of further enflaming Islamists? They're already waging war against Britain! How can it get worse?

It can get worse, of course, and will get worse, since the British policy of not further enflaming Islamis sensitivities means that moderate Moslems are marginalized, making it more difficult for these moderate Moslems to make inroads against the radicals:

No political movement can hope to win arguments if it turns the best and bravest into its foes. For the most courageous British Muslims, the Labour government and wider liberal society already seem slippery and hypocritical. Soon, they will be irredeemably tainted. ...

Ed Husain did not laugh but exploded with anger. "Where is the centre-left movement combating extremism?" he thundered. "Who on the left stands on the side of Muslims who want to support secularism and pluralism? Do they think that fascists only have white skins?"

Our Western world is sick. We seem to barely have the will to fight the jihadis. Yet at the same time we fight we kiss up to the radicals while we push away the moderate Moslems who would reform Islam and reduce the sickness of Islamo-fascism that causes us to fight.

It's madness.
