Lafayette, We Are Here

In the 1980s, we helped El Salvador fight off a powerful communist insurgency. Our Congress restricted our aid. Our Left protested. But in the end, we helped El Salvador win.

So this decade, El Salvador has been a good friend by helping us in Iraq. Their troops have just left:

The last Salvadoran troops are home from Iraq, ending Latin America's military presence there.

Five Salvadoran soldiers were killed and 20 wounded over the country's five-year deployment.

So thank you, El Salvador, for sticking with us to victory.

One day, Iraqi forces might display a similar level of gratitude in some other country where we need help.
