Venezuela's elections chief says President Hugo Chavez has won a referendum to eliminate term limits, paving the way for him to run again in 2012.
National Electoral Council chief Tibisay Lucena says with 94 percent of the vote counted, 54 percent have backed the president's proposal. That trend is irreversible.
Elections do not equal rule of law, as I've often noted. I don't even rule out that the voting results are accurate. It is quite possible that Venezuelans have decided to embrace their inner evil and give their clown prince the keys for life.
Chavez won't die peacefully in his sleep. But that end won't come before he plunges his nation and possibly his region into chaos.
