The Civil War in Iraq

There is a civil war going on in Iraq.

But it is not an Iraqi civil war.

It is a civil war between Shia and Sunni Islam and between the nutso versions of those branches and the moderate versions.

If it was truly a civil war between Iraqis, the killing wouldn't rely on foreigners supplying arms, money, and men to the competing sides.

To be sure, the broader civil war takes advantage of the big divisions to recruit Iraqis, but the worst violence comes from outside Iraq.

The most horrific killers--the suicide bombers--are mostly foreigners (from my Jane's email updates):

The US Department of State estimates that up to 90 per cent of suicide bombers in Iraq are foreigners. While these come from a growing list of Middle Eastern and North African countries, it is evident that Yemeni nationals make up a disproportionate number of those seeking martyrdom in Iraq.

I've long said that we are trying in our Long War to help Islam cure itself of the jihadi plague that is destroying Islam as it tries to kill those of us in the infidel camp.
