India has only two real strategic options: kowtow to China or align itself with a broader international coalition aiming to curb China’s geopolitical ambitions. Despite Modi’s apparent capitulation, there is reason to believe that India may choose the latter approach.
I think India is already on that path as the major players find they need to choose sides in the America-China split.
But forces in India who want to maintain the tradition of avoiding taking sides will oppose this move to America and the West.
But how do you kind of kneel to China? How do you only sort of seek support to block Chinese ambitions?
Trying to force the square peg of Cold War policy into the round hole of India's modern situation is not going to work. India will need to choose the West.
