A Canadian author contrasts Norway's military presence in their own far north with Canada's meager presence in Canada's north.
If Canada is on the new front line given Russia's interest in claiming Arctic Sea areas, Canada is not prepared.
Perhaps there is a good reason related to reliability in the extreme cold that Canada's part-time (and poorly trained) "Rangers" are equipped with ancient Lee-Enfield rifles (ah, a quick check confirms my guess), but Canada has less control of their north than Ukraine had of Crimea prior to March.
Canada may be turning their backs on peacekeeping abroad in favor of combat-ready troops, but Canada can't fight for their own north at this point.
