Dangerous Neighborhood

American ground forces are near another fight against jihadis currently being waged in the Sinai.

Jihadis struck Egyptian army forces in Sinai near Rafah:

At least 23 Egyptian soldiers were killed when suicide car bombs tore through two military checkpoints in North Sinai on Friday, security sources said, an attack claimed by Islamic State that marks one of the bloodiest assaults on security forces in years.

The Egyptians say they killed 40 jihadis in turn, after the attack. That's a bunch.

The fight in Sinai worries me. We have non-UN peacekeepers along the Israel-Egypt border in the Multinational Force and Observers. They could be collateral damage if the fighting spreads.

If Egypt is simply killing locals and defining dead males as jihadis, the war could widen from just a fight against jihadis to one against the local inhabitants.
