Not a Money-Back Guarantee, Obviously

As we celebrate the grand potential of Kerry-Lavrov I to disarm Assad of his chemical weapons, let's remember the original Lavrov deal that was supposed to prevent use in the first place.

Hey, remember when the Russians guaranteed that Assad wouldn't use chemical weapons?

Russia is working closely with the Syrian government to ensure that its arsenal of chemical weapons remains under firm control and has won promises that the weapons of mass destruction will not be used or moved, Moscow's point man on Syria told The Associated Press on Thursday.

That was August 2012, of course, in the pre-flexibility era.

I'm sure the new promises will work out just swell, though.
