The Wonders of the Internet

Amateurs have a scope of action wider than the professionals of decades past in intelligence. The Russian stealth plane that appears to be the model for China's plane is spotted in Russia by Bing maps.

The fact that the plane is out in the open seems to mean it isn't that important, so perhaps it is a failed design that China won't have much luck with, but it is cool that it can be spotted:

This might be the easiest ever find of an MIA airplane. You're looking at a Bing Maps image of the Mikoyan (MiG) Project 1.44, Russia's first attempt at building a flyable stealth fighter and the jet that some said was sent to China to help kick-start Beijing's stealth development program. The jet is the larger of the two shown above sitting just outside of Moscow at Zhukovsky airfield (we have no idea what the smaller, darker plane alongside the 1.44 is).

You'll have to zoom in. Go to the top of the triangle of the runways where there is a cluster of large white planes. Then look off to the right of three blue-roofed buildings--in particular the long, thin building running vertically.

My completely amateur (and there is no false modesty there) photo analysis seems to indicate the smaller plane is a Mig-29.

The wing tips are folded, so it has to be a carrier model. That narrows the suspects. Otherwise I wouldn't even be tempted to play this game.

It isn't a Su-25, obviously.

I don't see forward canards on the plane so it isn't a Su-33. And the main wings don't look quite right. At least, not compared to the Mig-29.

A lot of people scour the planet looking for military facilities or equipment on Internet satellite maps. I can see how this could be fun to do.
