The Tide of War Recedes into the EU

If we won't fight jihadis "over there" (because the tide of war is "receding"), we have to fight them "over here." Europeans are upset that "here" includes Europe:

The EU has demanded that the United States explain a report in a German magazine that Washington is spying on the bloc, saying that, if true, such surveillance was shocking.

French President Francois Hollande called the alleged spying intolerable, saying it could hinder U.S. relations with Paris and the European Union. "We want this to stop fast," he said.

One, of course we spy. Everyone does. We're just big enough and open enough for people to find out about it more often. The French attitude lacks nuance and approaches levels of thinking that can only be described as simplistic, no?

Two, do the Europeans forget that 9/11 hijackers used Europe as a sanctuary before coming here? Too many jihadis and proto-jihadis in Europe are actually paid to lie around fuming at America with time on their hands to plot because they have generous welfare benefits. Of course we're going to watch Europe.

Three, you wanted President Obama. You got him. All of him. Miss Bush yet, rubes? It's like Bush 44 in some respects, eh Europe? How long before the left starts waiting for Cheney to unzip his Obama suit and step out laughing, blasting away with a shotgun?

And four--well, four, just bite me. We're not fighting the war very well under this president, but at least we're fighting it.

UPDATE: President Obama addresses point one. Reasonably speaking, that's the only one I could realistically expect him to address.
