What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

The United States government is proposing an unmanned border crossing point for the US-Mexico border:

By the spring, kiosks could open up in Big Bend National Park allowing people from the tiny Mexican town of Boquillas del Carmen to scan their identity documents and talk to a customs officer in another location, at least 100 miles away.

This isn't new. We already have an unmanned border crossing point. It's called "Texas."

I get almost nostalgic for those days when we at least insisted that illegal border crossers get a thirteen foot ladder.

UPDATE: Strategypage writes that it actually makes sense for that location:

To actually enter the U.S. from the crossing requires traveling on several miles of park road and check points exiting the park. American tourists would be able to use the kiosk to legally cross into the Mexican village. Park officials argue that the unmanned kiosk would actually improve security.

I stand corrected. But considering that Fast and Furious "made sense" to our government, you'll forgive me if my first impulse wasn't to assume method in the apparent madness.
