Watch and Learn

No doubt Peking doesn't want its citizens in Taiwan as tourists during the two weeks before the presidential election there:

China has instructed its tour operators to avoid arranging group trips to Taiwan in the weeks leading up to the island’s January 14 presidential vote, Taiwanese travel agents said Friday. ...

It would be bad for Taiwan’s ruling pro-China Kuomintang (KMT) party if mainland tourists were spotted at its campaign rallies, as the opposition could describe it as interference in the election, he said.

Funny reasoning. I assume the danger is that Chinese tourists might get the dangerous idea that democracy works even for Asians supposedly in need of firm rulers to keep them from killing themselves because they can vote freely for their leaders.

Taiwan should have Democracy Tours for mainlanders. That would be a sight to see, eh?
