Leaning Forward

Assad seems to be primed to fight the Turks if they intervene in Syria's civil war:

Syrian troops guarding the border are opening fire at "anything that moves," residents and refugees said, apparently fearing armed infiltrators will cross into Syria to join a nine-month-old uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

With orders to shoot, the Syrians sure aren't as worried about giving Turkey a pretext to intervene as they are worried about failing to stop the first hints of intervention.
