I saw both Mad Minerva and Instapundit note this post about someone sick of people saying we are "addicted" to oil. Hear, hear. It isn't an addiction--it's the resource basis of our prosperity (well, aside from our ingenuity).
That is mildly annoying. I agree it is stupid. I shuddered when even President George W. Bush mouthed that sentiment. I expected better of him.
But what really gets me are all those oil company commercials where the companies practically apologize for being oil companies and not Unicorn and Fairy Dust Conglomerates that provide us with power using magical, renewable, green power sources.
Don't run commercials with people dreaming about ways we won't need your disgusting product!
Tell me how you once drilled through a freaking Caribou because it didn't move fast enough after your crew leaned on the horn twice (per regulations)!
Tell me how your lawyers screwed over the local dictator to extract a little more profit than you might otherwise have gotten if the guy wasn't more concerned with his personal slush fund.
Tell me how you are going to keep supplying our amazing economy with oil and sell it to us at prices that don't break our economy.
Hell, tell me that you figured out how to extract oil from gravel using Spotted Owl spleens or maybe Polar Bear lung material as a catalyst.
But don't apologize for being an oil company that is good at finding and producing oil.
That, my friends, is what I am truly sick of hearing.
