A Justified Apology

OK, we should apologize for this:

The United States apologized on Friday for an experiment conducted in the 1940s in which U.S. government researchers deliberately infected Guatemalan prison inmates, women and mental patients with syphilis.

In the experiment, aimed at testing the then-new drug penicillin, inmates were infected by prostitutes and later treated with the antibiotic.

But never forget, that this outrage was carried out in the pursuit of science.

There are those around today who would commit atrocities in the name of science. Never let it be said that no one expects the Green Inquisition. They're quite open about their aims.

I hope we don't need to hear apologies in the future for what these loons might do in their narrow focus on what they believe is the pursuit of science.

UPDATE: The people that put up the film are sorry:

Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.

They're sorry that other people didn't find their joke about killing "deniers" as funny as they did.
