The Pointless Debate Continues

This Iranian status report is not news:

U.S. National Intelligence Director Dennis Blair and Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lt. Gen. Michael Maples said Tuesday that Iran has only low-enriched uranium — which would need to be refined into highly enriched uranium before it can fuel a warhead. Neither officials said there were indications that refining has occurred.

It seems just days ago that it was a big deal that Iran had enough low-enriched uranium to build a bomb. Now it is no big deal--well not until 2010 perhaps--because the Iranians need to enrich it.

These pointless little debates about exactly where Iran is on the path to fielding nuclear missiles ignore the fact that Iran is going to get nuclear weapons if we don't stop them.

And if you are thinking that even an Iranian detonation of a home-grown nuclear device means we have time before the Iranians can weaponize and field a significant nuclear arsenal, dispersing the weapons in Iranian cities to deter our strikes, consider that Iran might think ahead and seek a break out capability.
