Identification Friend or Foe

Taliban Islamist nutballs won't work with America to kill other Islamist nutballs. The Taliban are missing an opportunity to get America to be their enforcer to kill rival Islamist nutballs.

While some people may be shocked that there is no Taliban 2.0 (now with Davos invitations!), this is a relief for me:

The Taliban said on Saturday they will not work with the U.S. to contain extremism in Afghanistan.

Taliban political spokesman Suhail Shaheen told The Associated Press the group will independently deal with extremist groups such as the Islamic State.

“We are able to tackle Daesh independently,” Shaheen said, using an Arabic acronym for the group.

These are the first direct talks the two groups will have since the U.S. evacuated Afghanistan in August, with the U.S. saying the talks are not a sign the Taliban will be recognized by the U.S, according to the AP.

It is amusing in a gallows humor sort of way that the article author thought that the Taliban didn't represent "extremism in Afghanistan." The Taliban rejection of America is a relief because maybe the delusions that the Taliban are people we can work with if only we talk to them enough will die.

It is a relief because it seemed like there was a real danger the United States Air Force would become the Taliban air force

I shudder to think what the Taliban will have to do to get us to resume our 20-year war against them. But at least we won't fight for the Taliban.

But who knows? We're talking directly to the Taliban. Hope springs eternal in the "enemies are just friends we haven't made yet" crowd.

I thank God we have big oceans between America and our enemies. Otherwise our stupidity could be immediately fatal.
