May I Have a Follow-Up Question?

Gun violence and accidents are dramatically down in America. Which leads the Christian Science Monitor to ask, "With gun violence down, is America arming against an imagined threat?"

This is based on incorrect public perceptions about gun violence:

A Pew study released Tuesday finds that Americans think gun violence has escalated when in reality it's way down from two decades ago. The violence has dropped, meanwhile, even as gun ownership has increased.

Apparently, it is irrational to feel you need a firearm. Why anyone should care if someone buys even a needless weapon and then does not shoot someone else or himself with it is beyond me.

Hey, isn't it even more irrational to be so hyper-focused on more laws that restrict gun ownership when violence is way down even though more people legally own guns?

I mean, if we are talking about imagined growing threats.
