A Small Price for Now

India lost their border dispute with China.

China exacted a price for packing up their tents and pulling their troops out of India-controlled territory:

India has agreed to a Chinese demand to demolish bunkers near their de facto border in the Himalayas, Indian military officers said, as part of a deal to end a stand-off that threatened to scupper slowly improving relations. ...

An official in defence ministry said on Monday the deal to end the standoff as a "quid pro quo" and said China had also demanded India take down listening and observation posts in the Chumar area, which is close to a Chinese road through Tibet.

India needs a little more sense of urgency about building infrastructure on their side of the border to be able to match China's capacity to put troops on the border (and supply them).

India lost only a small test of wills, it is true. But China only wanted a small thing this time. If China wants something more the next crisis, could India stop that?
