Don't Worry, Be Happy

Secretary Gates is upset that the Chinese have halted military-to-military exchanges with our forces because of our arms sales to Taiwan:

China’s move in January to halt interaction with the U.S. military over arms sales to Taiwan “makes little sense” and threatens regional security, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said. ...

“There is a real cost to any absence of military-to- military relations,” Gates said today at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue forum. “They are essential to regional security.”

Me? I'm perfectly happy that the exchanges are halted. May the Chinese stay angry enough to refuse to participate.

I think the exchanges only benefit China and give them the idea that they can beat us. The Chinese just haven't learned what we want to teach them.
