Safety Patrol

Despite an ugly comparison of Katrina tentatively raising its ugly head in regard to the Gulf oil spill, our Homeland Security chief is defending the heckuva job DHS has done so far:

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says the government has taken an "all hands on deck" approach to the spill since the day the BP oil well ruptured off the coast of Louisiana following an explosion.

Yes, talk of delay misses the point that DHS had to first check out the possibility that a dangerous veteran of overseas wars might return home and become a domestic terrorist who blew up the well.

Heckuva job, Janet!

UPDATE: To be clear if the sarcasm didn't come through, I'm not saying that the Obama administration screwed up in responding. It probably didn't. But I also think the belief that the Bush administration screwed up Katrina is way overblown given the screw ups at the state and city level and considering the scope of the damage. See this piece. We shall see how the press covers this issue, eh?
