Just saw Marine One and a couple escort helicopters--including a CH-47--carrying what I assume is the presidential party, flying low toward Metro airport. So that was kind of interesting.
I just have to stick close to home for another hour or so before I can go out since I'll be trapped with post-commencement speech traffic heading from the stadium to I-94.
I called my Ex who's pretty excited by the whole thing and who is working at Metro right now. She called to say she could see Air Force One and a couple C-130s at the airport. So I got ex-husband points (sure, they expire faster than a gift card balance, I know) for letting her know that she should position herself if she wants to see a micro-slice of history around her.
Interesting that this is what low tech air defense warning systems do. Post a kid with a cell phone by an air base and the kid calls their boss when anything takes off to give numbers, time, and direction.
UPDATE: And yes, that air defense angle made me hesitate to post this; but it would have been silly for me to think anyone with intent to harm would be reading this blog. And even if they did, it would be too late since flight time to the airport is short and the president would have been safely on the ground by then.
It was neat to be able to point out to Mister that the aircraft outside the window raising a racket were part of the presidential team. You don't have to be a fan to feel that way.
I wonder if the helicopters landed at the Michigan golf course across from the stadium?
