Now About Those Sanctions

One leading liberal politician has called for sanctions on Britain if there was anything fishy with the Scottish release of the Libyan Lockerbie bombing prisoner.

The British are saying not so fast on the outrage coming out of Washington:

‘The US was kept fully in touch about everything that was going on with regard to Britain’s discussions with Libya in recent years and about Megrahi,’ said the Whitehall aide.

‘We would never do anything about Lockerbie without discussing it with the US. It is disingenuous of them to act as though Megrahi’s return was out of the blue.

'They knew about our prisoner transfer agreement with Libya and they knew that the Scots were considering Megrahi’s case.

So what's the deal? Did the British pull a fast one or is our administration just stunned at the reaction of ordinary people to this action and trying to cover their butts.

If the former, will Senator Schumer support "sanctions" against the administration? Perhaps refusing to fund their pet spending projects to punish the administration?

The adminstration's stunned reactions to tea party protests, health care opposition, and the whole Van Jones issue tends to indicate the latter, I'd say. They seem to have no clue how ordinary Americans view their actions.

Still, who am I to condemn our new nuanced, "smart diplomacy" that will repair the damage George W. Bush did to our standing in the world?
