How else could they interpret the presentation of the NIE by their enemy's intelligence service and the discussion of that NIE summary by their enemy's media? Divine intervention is the only logical explanation. Really, how could the security and press apparatus of the Great Satan be anything but tools of that Satan?
So after expressing their joy at the way the intelligence has been presented and discussed, the Iranians can probably also be excused for believing that this performance will just be accepted (emphasis added):
"The day the report was issued, the Foreign Ministry submitted a formal note of protest to the Swiss Embassy and demanded an explanation over espionage activities," Mottaki was quoted as saying.
The U.S. National Intelligence Estimate released on Monday concluded Tehran suspended its nuclear weapons program four years ago and has shown no sign of resuming it. That was in stark contrast to a 2005 estimate that said Tehran was continuing its weapons development.
Iran's president hailed the new finding as a "declaration of victory" for his country.
The note went to the Swiss Embassy who represent our interests because we have no diplomatic relations with Iran (our Tehran embassy still being occupied by Iran, if you will recall).
What the heck? Our spies clear the way for Iran to go merrily on their way to nuclear weapons, so why shouldn't Iran display a little outrage over that spying?
Why shouldn't the Iranians press for a formal apology from us for spying on them? Our State Department will probably give one to them.
Hell, the UN General Assembly will probably vote to condemn us for that spying!
We live in a world of teenagers. They condemn us for everything we do to stop aggressive dictators from wrecking the world, and will condemn us for failing to stop those dictators when the world's obstruction prevents us from stopping those dictators.
