It's Hopey Science, Darn It

The Devil's food:

No widely accepted science supports the idea that GMOs are inherently dangerous to people’s health or the environment. To proponents, including many in the agribusiness industry, opposition to GMOs is nothing more than a dangerous mania, and the people in the grip of it are akin to those who refuse to vaccinate their children or who deny that human activity is changing the Earth’s climate.

I'll even take that last shot, since I don't deny human activity is affecting the climate--I just deny it is the decisive input compared to natural forces (see 16+ years of static temperatures) and I deny that the solutions offered would do any good rather than wrecking our economies and reducing our liberties.

So the dismissal of the level of science in the ant-GMOer position is appreciated.

But what gets me about the issue is that almost all of them have Obama-Biden bumper stickers on their cars. I find it offensive that these people don't trust President Obama's Department of Agriculture and FDA, which continue to say GMO foods are safe and backed by science.

It's almost like these GMO deniers are suspicious of a president who doesn't look like them (they appear less diverse than MSNBC newsrooms) and whose middle name is "Hussein." It's at least suspicious, you must admit.
