Waving his tenure in the Reagan administration like a talisman to ward off criticism of his love for retreat, Korb wants to vigorously bug out of Iraq. He's always wanted that, but now he has a new hook to replace the "redeploy" ploy:
It is now clear that there is a bipartisan consensus that the United States should reset its entire Middle East strategy. However, this reset must be immediate and sweeping. This nation cannot afford any more half-measures.
Not content to just retreat from victory in Iraq, Korb wants an entirely broader retreat in the entire Middle East to cover the Iraq bug out. No half-measures for Korb! And of course, he wants us to all retreat together (can't have the Left being blamed for any calamity!) .
Talk about shock and awe!
And the birth of a new word for retreat is born! "Reset."
And lest you think that Korb is just trying another path for victory, think again:
Finally, to fulfill a key moral obligation to the Iraqi people, the United States should increase the number of Iraqi refugees and internally displaced persons it accepts annually from the current 7,000 to 100,000.
Anticipating lots of refugees from the Iraq we leave, are you Mr. Korb? Why would that be?
I have little use for Lawrence Korb's analysis. It's been a while since he worked for President Reagan, so he might try tagging his byline with something a little more recent--and a little more accurate. A Reaganite he isn't.
Let's use all our big brains in our think tanks to win this war, not dress up retreat in language designed to lull us into thinking defeat is a good thing.
