At Least He Doesn't Have Oil

President Robert Mugabe has destroyed Zimbabwe--a country that once had promise to be a region of stability and prosperity that might pull along an entire region.

Inflation is about 800% per year, food is running out, unemployment is rampant, and the political opposition is incapable of resisting Mugabe's thugs. The basic situation?

The U.S. ambassador to Zimbabwe said in November that gross government mismanagement and corruption have reversed a half-century of progress in six years.

The country could just collapse. I'm thankful they don't have oil. And I wonder if South Africa, the regional power, is up to intervening to save this crumbling country.

Mugabe has made friends with Peking. I wonder what China will do, too.
