Net Warfare

Could Army troops down drones with net rounds fired from standard grenade launchers?

It's likely that whoever US troops fight in the next war, these enemies will be armed with drones. That's why Army researchers have invented a smart and cost-effective way to bring them down.

The US Army has invented a new grenade in the 40 mm configuration that is packed with a net and specifically designed to take out enemy drones.

That sounds pretty cool. And useful. And cheap. Although I have no way of judging whether that method is superior to a weapon that tries to shoot down the drones.

But my worry is that the short-range weapons is now one more thing that forward infantry will have to carry and use, distracting them from the close fight against enemy ground troops.

That's why I called for an air defense drone swarm (in Army magazine) scaled up as the capability goes up the headquarters chain.

It would not be cheap but it has the advantage of allowing the infantry to focus on the close fight with no more effort to fight drones than they expend on fighting high-flying enemy aircraft that the Air Force will try to keep off their backs.

Still, it would be a useful addition to an infantry platoon just in case; and definitely useful for base defense.

Also, could it be put in the vehicle-mounted launchers usually used to fire smoke grenades around the vehicle?

Maybe the trident will be fixed on the end of the rifle.
