Syria has transferred long-range Scud missiles to the Lebanese Shiite militant group Hezbollah, Israeli and U.S. officials alleged, in a move that threatens to alter the Middle East's military balance and sets back a major diplomatic outreach effort to Damascus by the Obama administration.
Surprise! Surprise! Surprise!
And it probably really is a surprise to the Obama administration. As I've mentioned before, if it was amateur hour at the White House, I'd have hope they could learn from experience. But they believe we have to keep on reassuring enemies no matter what in order to bring them over from the dark side. So no, it is no set back for outreach. They'll keep on trying, I imagine.
The rockets that our enemies in Iran and Syria are supplying to Hezbollah are getting bigger. How long before Hezbollah gets chemical, biological, or (one day) atomic warheads?
After all, if you are a nutball in Tehran and are reasonably sure Israel will retaliate with nukes, why not fight to the last Arab instead?
