Be Grateful for What We Give You, You Splittist Deviationists

The Chinese charm offensive sometimes bares its teeth as Peking tries to hold that smile a bit too long:

Taiwan’s government should cherish the improving ties across the Taiwan Strait with China, the Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Yang Yi said today in Beijing.

"Improved relations" don't mean China accepts a self-governing Taiwan or that China reduces its miltiary threat to capture Taiwan, of course. It just means that the Chinese smile while they tell Taiwan that Peking owns the island and gear up their military power to take the island.

But the Taiwanese should shut up and cherish what China grants them--a moment of relaxation before the axe falls.
