When did conservatives stop wanting to prevent Russians from winning?
Don't make the leap from (via Instapundit) "America shouldn't fight Russia in Ukraine" to "America has no interest in Ukraine winning."
I don't think America needs to fight in defense of Ukraine under current circumstances. And FFS, who exactly is suggesting America should invade and conquer Russia?
Yet we should want Russia as far east as possible. If Russia moves west, soon America will have a great interest in sending its Appalachian Grenadiers to fight and die in Europe.
It would be nice if the Russians weren't paranoid a-holes about the West. But fixing the relationship needs Russia to change far more than it needs the West to offer concessions. Maybe one day Russian leadership will decide it is part of the West. I've long wanted that. And still hope for it. But Putin is an enemy of the West.
Conservatives shouldn't abandon Ukraine just because liberals are suddenly anti-Russian. Just say "welcome to the Cold War party, pal" and be grateful they aren't Russian/Soviet apologists any more.
